Drivers usually bring a vehicle in for tuning because something feels off rather than broken. What we look at

A tuning review uses the same tools as a diagnosis. We scan for stored and pending codes, then read live data: short and long term fuel trims, mass airflow readings, ignition timing, misfire counters, oxygen sensor response, and throttle and pedal position. Fuel trims in particular tell us whether the engine is fighting an unmetered air leak, a dirty airflow sensor, a fuel delivery problem, or an exhaust leak ahead of the sensor. Mechanical condition matters just as much, so spark plugs, coils, filters, induction cleanliness, and vacuum integrity all get checked.

Where tuning ends and repair begins

Tuning cannot correct a mechanical fault, and we will tell you when that is what we are looking at. If the real problem is a leaking intake gasket, a weak coil, a restricted injector, or a worn plug, that gets repaired first and the engine is then re-evaluated. Most of the improvement drivers notice from “tuning” comes from fixing those basics: clean air and fuel delivery, strong ignition, correct spec oil, and no air getting in unmeasured.

After repairs, parts changes, or a module replacement

Tuning is also useful after work has been done. A new intake, exhaust, sensor, or control module can change how the engine computer reads the vehicle, and some engines need an idle or throttle relearn, an adaptive reset, or a software update before they settle.
